In 1907, Polytechnic School was founded as the first nonprofit, independent school in Southern California. Poly has grown in size and scope of programs, but what remains consistent is our ambitious and forward-thinking values.
Cal Poly’s six academic colleges offer more than 150 undergraduate majors and minors, as well as over 50 graduate programs. Learn by Doing unifies our colleges and animates the curriculum of each — because no matter the field of study, the best way to build new knowledge is to try it out for yourself.
Polytechnic School, often referred to simply as Poly, is a college preparatory private day school located in Pasadena, California with approximately 850 students enrolled in grades Kindergarten through 12. The school is a former member of the G20 Schools group.
In 2023, U.S. News & World Report named us both the most innovative school in the west and the top public school in the west. They’ve also named us the west’s best public, master’s-level university for 31 consecutive years.
Cal Poly's six academic colleges offer more than 60 majors for you to consider. We require students to declare a major as part of the application process in order to maximize their experience in their chosen field from Day One.
