I have tried killing Astrid in the cabin initially and subsequently wiping out the Brotherhood. But killing the emperor on his own ship is a pretty good payoff. After several playthroughs, the hardest thing for me now is not having the option to let her lay there and suffer. 🤷🏻♂️ You have to kill her to continue the quest.
