Robert Goldwater (November 23, 1907 – March 26, 1973) was an American art historian, African arts scholar and the first director of the Museum of Primitive Art, New York, from 1957 to 1973. He was married to the French artist and sculptor Louise Bourgeois.

Rockefeller Wing, the library is nonetheless one of the Museum's largest departmental libraries, supporting the Department of the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas.

Goldwater (1873-1942), an M.D. and visionary commissioner of Hospitals in New York under Mayor La Guardia. Goldwater attended Columbia University, receiving his B. A. in 1929.
