Robin Marcus Birley (born 19 February 1958) is an English businessman, entrepreneur and political donor. He is the son of Lady Annabel Goldsmith and the nightclub owner Mark Birley . He had a brother, Rupert, who disappeared and is presumed deceased, and a sister, India Jane Birley .

Robin Edgar Birley OBE (19 January 1935 – 29 August 2018) was a British archaeologist. He was the Director of Excavations at the Roman site of Vindolanda and head of the Vindolanda research committee. He was the son of Eric Birley (a scholar of Hadrian's Wall) and brother of Anthony Birley.

22 de oct. de 2018 · Dr Robin Birley, who died in 2018, was a renowned archaeologist who discovered the Vindolanda Tablets, the oldest handwritten documents in Britain. He also taught at Strathallan and Gordonstoun, where he inspired Prince Charles and many other students to pursue archaeology.
Who was Robin Birley? Robin Birley was director of the excavations at Vindolanda between about 1967 and 2015 – nearly 50 years – when he handed over the directorship of the excavations to his son Andrew. Robin passed away in 2018.
