Professor Trilokeshwar Shonku ( Bengali: প্রফেসর শঙ্কু) is a fictional scientist and inventor created by Satyajit Ray in a series of Bengali science fiction books of the same name published from 1965 on. He is the central protagonist of the series. Professor Shonku resides in Giridih.
The story follows Professor Trilokeshwar Shonku, a Bengali scientist and inventor, who travelled to Mars and after being attacked by the Martians, fled to a planet named Tafa, where the inhabitants welcomed him and made him a citizen of their planet.
Professor Trilokeshwar Shonku is once again based on a character created by Arthur Conan Doyle – in this case Professor Challenger, from novels like The Lost World ( 1912) – but is very much less pigheaded than his model, and very much more imaginative in the Inventions he creates.
Plot. Shonku goes to Egypt to visit Prof. James Summerton who was working in an ancient pyramid and has been bitten by a scarab beetle. Shonku cures Summerton with his medicine, Miracurall. Summerton goes back working on the pyramid and Shonku accompanies him .
