  1. Chase was a co-educational school formed by the merger of two single-sex schools. The first was a girls' school established in 1865 as Collegiate Institute for Young Ladies, later St. Margaret's School for Girls. The second was a boys' school established in 1912 as the McTernan School for Boys.

  2. In 1961, the property in downtown Waterbury was sold to the McTernan School, and St. Margaret's was now wholly encompassed on the Chase Parkway campus. The new campus continued to grow. Three properties located near the school were purchased to house faculty, administrators and the Alumnae Office.

Educating women was an innovation in 1865, when the Collegiate Institute for Young Ladies (later St Margaret’s School for Girls) opened its doors in Waterbury.
