The midfielder then moved to Liverpool, before joining Hibernian FC in Scotland and, later, the New York Red Bulls. His career has also included stops at Helsingborg (Sweden), Esbjerg (Denmark) and Zürich (Switzerland) before signing for Darmstadt 98 in January 2019.

He joins the club from German Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04 and is the first signing under new head coach Wayne Rooney.
