[1] In July 2010, the academy was transferred to Kazan by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation and renamed the Volga State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism. The branch in Naberezhnye Chelny was preserved. [2] In March 2021, it was achieved the status of a university.
As part of the Universiade Legacy Concept, the university returned to Kazan in 2010 and received not only a new name - the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism (PovGAFKSiT), but also 7 modern sports facilities built for the Universiade.
