Excerpt from THE BEWITCHED HISTORY BOOK (available at the link in my bio): “The character of Harriet Kravitz was originally intended as just temporary as everyone thought that Alice Pearce just needed some time off. Unfortunately she passed away a few weeks after this episode finished filming.

She was very talented and won an Emmy Award for best supporting actress in a comedy series posthumously as she had died on March 3, 1966 of ovarian cancer. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer before "Bewitched" ever started but kept the diagnosis a secret.
