In 1978, together with her daughter Daria Halprin, she founded the Tamalpa Institute, based in Marin County, California, which offers training in Life/Art process, their creative methodology. Halprin has written books including: Movement Rituals, Moving Toward Life: Five Decades of Transformational Dance and Dance as a Healing Art .

–Rana Halprin, Anna’s daughter and facilitator of Anna and Larry’s work. Anna believed in the basic goodness of humankind, in using the powerful forces of nature, community involvement, movement as a healing art, searching to bring parts to whole for the betterment of everyone.

After a brief stint performing on Broadway with Doris Humphrey’s company, Halprin and her husband moved to San Francisco in 1945, where their daughters Daria (1948) and Rana (1951), were born. (Today Daria Halprin Khalighi is an expressive arts therapist and Rana Halprin is a Marriage and Family Therapist and photographer.)
