Situated on top of a steep hill (brae), it was originally named Whitfield High School. It was damaged in a fire on 11 September 2018, which destroyed around half of the building.
Dundee City Council is consulting on the proposal to close both Braeview Academy and Craigie High School at the end of academic year 2023/24 and replace them with a single new secondary school and community learning campus in Drumgeith Road. The new school would have a catchment area covering the whole of Braeview Academy’s current catchment, together with the portion of Craigie High School’s current catchment that lies north of the Arbroath Road (A92).
