The CIES Football Observatory is a research group within the International Centre for Sports Studies that provides services and analyses for sports governing bodies in the areas of questionnaire surveys, databases, data mining, and business intelligence. It has worked with FIFA, UEFA, Opta, and other stakeholders on topics such as athlete migration, professional football players, and international basketball transfers.

Since 2013, the CIES Football Observatory has developed a statistical model to assess the transfer value of professional football players on a scientific basis (see notably this paper in the peer review journal Economies).This tool provides access to the estimated value of players in Europe’s big-5 under a scenario with a contractual duration of at least three years.
