We know Gerson used to work at the school AND he wrote Lord of the Hammer. We don't see a toy hammer in the abandoned classroom (though it's possible Toby didn't feel the need to include one.) I only bring this up because there is a hammer mentioned in chapter 2. The one buried at Gerson's grave.
