Como ya hemos comentado en la introducción, en base al modo en el que se den las interacciones antígeno-anticuerpo, los ELISAs se clasifican en 4 tipos: ELISA directo, ELISA indirecto, ELISA tipo sándwich y ELISA competitivo. El ELISA se expresa en valores cualitativos, es decir, o es positivo o es negativo.Sólo el ELISPOT puede aportar resultados cuantitativos, pero no hay unos límites estándar para todos los estudios: Cuando el ELISA es positivo quiere decir que se han detectado antígenos en la muestra recogida, y por tanto hay gérmenes presentes.
