As with Eusébio many years later, Peyroteo was born not in Portugal but in one of their former African colonies. Whilst the Benfica legend hailed from Mozambique, Peyroteo was a native of Angola.
1 de mar. de 2017 · Peyroteo was the oldest of the five and retired rather prematurely at the age of 31 in 1949. It was time enough to win the Primeira Liga on five occasions, to go along with four Portuguese Cups. He had his best moment in the deciding match of the 1947/48 championship against Benfica.
Peyroteo started to deliver goals and victories in his first game, 12 September 1937, a friendly against Benfica, where he scored two goals in the 5-3 win. By then he had finally signed his contract, with a 500 Portuguese escudos premium and a monthly salary of 700, which was what the best Sporting players received at the time.
During his spell with the Lisbon side, Peyroteo won five Primeira Liga trophies, five domestic cups and the first edition of the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira at the new Estádio Nacional, scoring twice in the latter tournament for an eventual 3–2 extra time win over Benfica.
