With a decorated career spanning from the 1980s until 2001, she set several records in her specialties (the heptathlon and the long jump) and won a great number of championships and recognitions over the years.

She was the first American ever to win a gold medal in the long jump and the first woman in history to earn more than 7,000 points in the grueling seven-event heptathlon.
