  7. Stella Adler (1901–1992), founder of the school. The Stella Adler Studio of Acting, in New York City, was founded in 1949 by Adler. In 1969, it became the first professional training school to become affiliated with New York University 's Tisch School of the Arts. The studio became a 501 (c)3 not-for-profit organization in 2000.
